Montreal

So my first experience of Montreal was a little like France - in a shop at the station (a real station with shops and a McDonald's!) after alighting the train and the proprietor asks a question in French - "I'm sorry - I'm English" I say in French back to him. He makes a face and turns away! Ok I thought - this is going to be interesting...Get in a cab and try and tell the guy where I am going in French. He counters in English and tells me I am beautiful and do I need a boyfriend for the weekend!!!

Rest of the weekend was fab - although I did the usual single person on holiday thing of walking too much and tiring myself out every day while not enjoying that much of the nightlife. I have this down to a tee now though - stay out as late as you can doing stuff - have dinner on the way back and by then its late enough to say you have had an evening of sorts. Course it helps if your bathroom in the guest house has a spa bath which is what I did on the first night! All in all a very enjoyable, slightly romantic city with lots to do and a very pretty old town.
(and they mostly speak English in the really touristy bits - phew!)
